It’s Give Back Week Next Week!

How powerful is an idea? How much are words worth? And what can they help accomplish?

Next week, December 5-11, I will be donating every penny I make with my BloodLines Creative Services freelance writing to Annie’s Hope Bereavement Center for Young People (www.annieshope.org) and to the Post-Dispatch 100 Neediest Cases. Why would I do such a thing?

It’s time for me to give back. Time for me to use my creative abilities to help other people in ways that I’ve never done before. Sure, I need to make a living. But sacrificing one week of potential earnings and instead donating what I make to two extremely worthy causes can only end up helping in the long run. In fact, I hope this is something I can turn into an annual event.

In order to really make any kind of a difference though, I’ll need more freelance work to work on. It could be almost anything – a last-minute holiday sales promo, help on a new business pitch, a creative holiday card to send out, concepting for a new product name or theme line. Those of you who know me know that I can creatively attack and develop great ideas for virtually anything. And I know there’s work out there that needs doing. And next week would be a great week to give me a test run.

You’ll get great creative and at the same time, you’ll be making your own contribution to one of two extremely worthy causes. So take me up on my offer. Put me to work for a few hours next week and you can help make a small difference in someone’s life.

Hello, world!

Well, it’s about time. Though no one has been anxiously awaiting this first post, I certainly have. This is the beginning of an on-going dialogue that I’ll be sending out into the blogosphere to see if there’s any interest in anything I have to say.

I think there will be. I’ll be commenting on advertising and marketing communications. Yippee! That certainly sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Actually, I’ll be giving my take on what’s going on from my world-view and trying to make it relevant. And adding in lots of daily, family touches as well.

I’ll also be detailing what it’s like to be a freelance writer in a world that’s full of freelance writers. How will I stand out? How will I create a name for myself and will anyone care in the grand scheme of things?

We will see. For now, it’s good to just get it going. I have many gifts to give and share. So thanks for reading.

It’s time to do great things.

Tom
